I love maxis for the spring and summer, but did you know that a trend started last year to wear them during the fall? Well I’m happy to report that I just snagged my first one…for the fall, that is. It’s a cute little knit skirt…I guess you could consider it to be a sort of sweater maxi. At any rate, it’ll be a great addition to my fall wardrobe. I scored it from Marshall’s for just $25.

I normally wear my maxi skirts with flat sandals…it’s my go-to look for the summer…but with fall being so cool in Georgia, I would look like an idiot wearing sandals. So how should I wear my maxi skirt for the fall? Well being the Budget Shopaholic, I found a few things that might work for me…and they might work for you too.

1. You can always go retro with your maxi by going back to the 80s. You can pair your maxi with a slouchy sweater and a pair of flat, slouchy boots. This will make for a cute and casual look. And it will also make you or your mom (depending on your age) really nostalgic!!

2. Another thought is to go with a more tailored look by pairing your maxi skirt with a blazer, blouse and a nice pair of pumps…or better yet a cute pair of loafer pumps (if loafer pumps are for you). Either way, this would be a great look for the office.

3. I’m a BIG Gossip Girl fan, and this next idea was inspired by the show. Even though I like them all, this New York socialite idea is my favorite. Try pairing your maxi skirt with a fur vest collar, a plain long sleeved tee and lace-up wedge booties or lace-up oxfords. With this outfit, you would be the envy of Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively’s character on the show for those of you who don’t follow the show)!!

4. Last but certainly not least, you can always go rocker chic if you’re into the edgy look. I probably have a little over 25 leather jackets (probably more…). Among them is a buckled motorcycle leather jacket. If I’m going for an edgy look, I’d pair that maxi skirt with my jacket (similar to the one below), a printed top and a pair of buckle high heeled booties. This would be a great club outfit for those cool fall nights.
