Manicures

Last fall I told you all about the latest nail color trends. I also told you about the latest nail craze, Minx Nails. I absolutely love Minx Nails because they are simplistic. What’s not so simplistic is the fact that a specially certified nail tech has to apply Minx AND the $40 and up price tag.

Well, what if I told you that you could give yourself a Minx-inspired manicure for a fraction of the cost? Would you jump at the chance to learn about it? I know I would!! Anyway, I went out and searched some easy tutorials on applying nail designs to your own nail and here’s what I found. With these tutorials, you’ll have that Minx look in no time!! All you’ll need are a few nail colors, some brushes, and maybe a cheaper little nail design stamper (depending on the look you’re going for). And don’t worry about not being a professional manicurist…everything that I’ve found is easy to apply. Happy manicuring :) !!

I’m sure that you can get the nail stamp and nail plates at your nearest beauty supply store, but I’m not sure which ones. So to get the nail stamp and nail plates in this video, click here. The nail stamp and nail plates don’t cost more than $10.

Spa
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, we’re in a recession. Even though we’re in a recession we still like to be pampered…at least I know I do. But who has money to spend on pampering in this economy? Massages are at least $50 a pop…and that’s supposed to be a wallet-friendly price. A good manicure/pedicure would cost you at least $25 – $35…and again, that’s for a wallet-friendly mani/pedi in one of those over-crowded nail salons. Don’t even get me start on the cost of a decent facial these days.

Well I say that we should try pampering ourselves in our homes in this tough economy. You can start with some of my “Pamper-Me-Pretty” at-home spa choices. With my selections below, you can look and feel just as great as you would if you went to a spa…but you’ll save yourself a ton of cash, so you might feel even better.

Have you ever been between pedicures and had a nail emergency? Or have you applied a fresh coat of your favorite color to your nails only to find pesky bubbles in the finish of your nail color? Well I know that I’ve certainly been in these predicaments and they can be quite annoying. I have a few tricks that will easily fix those bothersome nail color issues.

1. Is your nail polish thick or sticky? Try adding a few drops of nail polish remover to your nail polish bottle. It will thin out the polish and make it apply easier.

2. Did you or your manicurist get polish on your skin? Just wash your hands if or hop in the shower. The water will wash off the excess polish.

3. Have bubbles dried in your nail color finish? Well, bubbles can usually get in the finish because we shake our nail polish bottles. Instead of shaking the bottle to mix the color, try rolling the bottle between your palms. Another reason could be because you’re not letting your nail polish coats dry. So make sure that you let your coats dry thoroughly before applying additional coats.

4. Did you smudge your fresh coat of polish? Try moistening your fingertip with a little bit of nail polish remover and rubbing it gently over the smudge until it goes away.

5. Do you have a chipping problem? Make sure that you apply a base clear coat before applying the color and a top clear coat after applying the color. If you are still finding that you have chipping issues, reapply your color to the chipped area only. Wait for the polish to dry, then use my little trick from number 4 (above) to smooth out the unevenness. Then apply a top coat.

If you use these 5 tricks, you bound to get longevity out of your manicures and pedicures.

Our nails. They’re the easiest way to accessorize. I personally change my nail color once a week. (In case you’re wondering, yes I’m neurotic…lol.) Sometimes I wear a French manicure…sometimes I wear subtle light pinks or nudes…sometimes I wear bold electric blues, hot pinks, or wild yellows (much to my bff’s dismay). I choose my color of the week based off of my mood at the time. This week, for instance, I was in a serene mood so I decided to go with O.P.I.’s It’s Sheer Luck. In case you didn’t get it from the name of the color, It’s Sheer Luck is sort of a nude color…one of this summer’s nail color trends.

As you know, celebrities are really big on trends…and nail colors aren’t excluded. Ciara, Demi Moore, Olivia Palermo, Beyonce, and Zoe Saldana usually keep up with the latest trends. Here are some of the season’s trends that they’ve chosen.

Christian Dior Contact Lenses

Okay, so I just got some weird news. I just learned that mega, high-end designer Christian Dior is venturing into an unorthodox line of eyewear…well, unorthodox for high-end designers anyway. Mr. Dior’s next venture…signature contact lenses, which will be infused with gold flakes might I add. What will they think of next?

I don’t know about you, but I think it’s pretty cool. I don’t think I’d ever wear them, but they’re still cool nonetheless.

I wonder what the inspiration was behind this idea. Could it be the golden-amber eyes of Twilight’s Cullen coven? Ha!! Doubtful…but everything always links back to Twilight for me these days, lol.

At any rate, if you really love designer everything you can step your love of designer wear up to the next level with these contact lenses (not that anyone would actually be able to see Christian Dior’s signature in the lenses, as I’m sure that the “CD” is extremely small in person).

Would you buy and wear these contact lenses? Write in and let me know your thoughts.
