Beauty

Nuance by Salma Hayek

I think that Salma Hayek is one of the most beautiful women working in Hollywood today. I always wondered what she did to make herself always look so flawless. Of course most Hollywood starlets look flawless but Salma’s look seems effortless…and she doesn’t look like she piles on tons of make-up like most celebrities.

Well now Salma’s secret is revealed…and at reasonable prices to boot. Nuance is her new skin care and make-up line, and it reportedly includes the beauty regimen that she uses. The best thing about this line is that it’s extremely affordable with over 100 products ranging between $2.99 to $19.99.

“I wanted to create a line of premium beauty products that were both effective and affordable using the ingredients and knowledge passed down to me from my grandmother,” the actress, whose grandma was a cosmetologist, said in a release. “My partnership with CVS/pharmacy allowed me to be truly involved in every aspect of product development, bringing my vision to life in making a line that is available to all women, who are entitled to preserve their youth no matter what.”

I’m not saying that you will look like Salma Hayek, but this is definitely a start in the right direction if this is the actual regimen she uses. Visit cvs.com/nuancesalmahayek to see what the line has to offer. It’s due in stores this month.

Here’s one of the several videos that I found with Salma promoting her new product.

Get a Sexy Back

August 15, 2011

Blake Livelyl, Zoe Saldana, and Christina Milian in Backless Dresses

Everybody wants a sexy back…especially during the summer when we all start shedding clothes. I know I certainly do. I’ve picked up a few tips from that many celebrities use to help them go backless for those sexy little summer dresses.

1. A bath brush is key to having a smooth, sexy back. Bath brushes brush away all of the dead skin, dirt and oil that build up over a day. I like to use mine when I’m taking a shower, but you can also use it on dry skin. Make sure that your brush is even with no protruding bristles and is all natural.

2. Three times a week use an exfoliating scrub. You can buy one from your local health and beauty store, or you can make a homemade scrub. Here’s a little recipe for a homemade scrub: Mix together 2 tablespoons of oatmeal, 2 tablespoons of cornmeal and 2 tablespoons of wheat germ and store in an airtight container. When you’re ready to use the scrub, combine 2 teaspoons of your mixture with 2 teaspoons of water. Then you can scrub your way to a sexy back.

3. You might also want to try a body wash with a little salicylic acid. Neutrogena Body Wash contains just the right amount. For those who don’t know, salicylic acid is a gentle chemical exfoliant and helps to subtly peel away excess skin and dirt. This is safe to use every day with your bath brush.

4. To even out any blotchiness, try using a toner. Jergens Natural Glow is a great tanning lotion (to bring an even color to your back) and toner. Another toning trick is to use a bronzer on your back…just make sure to apply a small amount of bronzer.

5. What good is a pretty skin on your back if it’s unsculpted. So here are a few easy exercises to help get a lean back.

I love doing fun stuff with my nails. Being the Budget Shopaholic, I never pay someone to do something that I can do myself…so that definitely includes my manis and pedis. Believe me when I tell you that I am not an expert, but I always manage to do a somewhat professional looking job. If you’re interested in saving a little dough and giving yourself a mani or pedi, I know of some fun stuff you can try. And if you’re a little skeptical, let one of your friends be your test dummy ;-) .

One of my favorite things to do is change things up a little…literally. By that, I mean to put a different color on each nail. You can do anything from two different colors to ten. Of course ten different colors is for more daring individuals. Since I work in an office environment, I usually stick with just two colors.

Different Nail Color

My new thing for the summer is the new crackle nail lacquers…I believe that OPI calls it Shatter. Everyone may call it something different, but the effect is the same…I’m an OPI nut!! This is something you can do this without even trying…the crackle nail polish does all the work for you. It’s as easy as applying a regular nail color, waiting for it to dry, and then applying the crackle (or Shatter) nail color. See what I mean…you don’t even have to try to get this to look great and professional.

If you into designs on your nails but don’t have the artistic touch, I have just the thing for you. Bundle Monster Nail Art Stamps can definitely help you. I haven’t used them, but I’ve seen these things in action and I’m thinking about investing, and at prices as low as $18 for 21 reusable stamps I say it’s worth the investment. They seem super easy to use and you can do a ton of designs with it. I’ve included a little tutorial video in case you’re interested.

Celebrities with Hot Pink Lips

Hot pink has been gracing the lips of celebrities everywhere. I don’t think I’ve seen so many hot pink lips since the 80s…well 80s photos anyway. I’ve even seen a lot of it on the runway.

Well if you’re anything like me, you already believe that many celebrity red carpet and runway looks don’t really translate into real life. But the bold, hot pink lips certainly will…especially if you follow these tips.

• Choose your seasons wisely. With hot pink being a lively color, the spring and summer months would be a great time to wear such a fun color. Save the red for the fall and winter.
• No two shades are alike. Always test out the colors before you buy them…that’s what makeup counters are for afterall. One shade may work better for the day and another shade works better for the night, while another may not work for you at all.
• K.I.S…keep it simple. Even though bright colors are in these days, try to avoid pairing your bright lips with several different bright colors in your outfit. Most likely if you are wearing bright lips, that should be the highlight of your ensemble. Not to say that you can’t wear a to-die-for outfit, it’s just that you don’t want the colors in your outfit competing with the color of your lips.
• If you feel like you want to do a more daring cosmetic than just your lips alone, stick with my advice above and remember that nail polish is a cosmetic too. Try wearing a fun nail color with your hot pink lips.
• Just like the colors in your outfits, you want to tone done the colors in the rest of your make-up. Hot pink lips with hot pink eyes and cheeks can make you look clown-like. Instead, pair your bright lips with natural tones. Let your lips be the highlight of your face.

If you think that hot pink is the lip color for you, (whether you’re interested in gloss or lipstick) I’ve found a few for you.

Eva Mendes

Eva Mendes has a lot of great attributes that make many women jealous. Obviously someone at Pantene thinks that her hair is one of those great attributes because she is one of the newest faces of Pantene. If you’re a fan of Eva, you”ll definitely see more of her on commercials and in magazine ads.

Not only is Ms. Mendes one of the newest faces of Pantene, but she also uses the products. She will be fronting the “Breakage to Strength” collection. “The amount of torture I put my hair through with flat irons, blow dryers and curling irons leaves my hair extremely damaged,” Mendes said in a release. “With Pantene I can use all of these tools and still keep my hair healthy.”
